The International Schools of Choueifat, “Archeological Dig”Thursday, June 24, 2010
Students from both International Schools of Choueifat in Egypt: Cairo and City of 6th of October were invited to join an Archeological Dig under the sponsorship of the Children’s Museum in Indianapolis, USA, which is one of the largest children’s museums in the world. This museum has been advising in the design of the new Suzanne Mubarak Children's Museum in Heliopolis which is now under construction. As part of the museum’s ongoing campaign of “Take me there Egypt”, in collaboration with The First Lady Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak and Dr. Zahi Hawass, they asked Dr. Hawass for an opportunity for American children to actually participate in a real, active archeological dig in Sakkara or Giza. Dr Hawass readily consented, and we were extremely honoured to be invited to join this project. Our students had a wonderful day out at a dig site close by the Giza Pyramids on the site where many of the workers who built the pyramids were buried.
In addition to leading the dig, Dr. Zahi Hawass spoke to us all giving us some amazing information on the construction of the pyramids and the people who actually laboured to build them. Later in the day, under expert guidance, the students undertook an actual "dig" and were rewarded by uncovering three artifacts which, when placed in the museum, will be labeled as being found by students from The International Schools of Choueifat, Egypt. |
